Domestic Cricket Journey

Sachin started cricket when his elder brother Ajit introduced him to coach Ramakant Achrekar at Shivaji Park, Dadar. Sachin got nervous playing in front of the coach at first.  He didn't perform well at that time. Ajit then asked Achrekar to hide behind a tree and watch. That time, Sachin played naturally and got selected into the academy.

Achrekar had a famous motivation technique. The coach gave him the coin if Sachin batted through the entire session without getting out. Sachin still has those 13 coins he won. He considers them among his most prized possessions.

Sharadashram School Cricket

Achrekar advised Sachin to shift to Sharadashram Vidyamandir School. It was known for producing notable Mumbai cricketers. Sachin and Vinod Kambli put together an unbroken 664 run partnership in a Lord Harris Shield inter-school match against St. Xavier's. Sachin scored 326 not out. This was a world record partnership in any form of cricket until 2006.

MRF Pace Foundation

Sachin actually wanted to be a fast bowler when he was 14. He went to the MRF Pace Foundation in Madras for training. But Australian legend Dennis Lillee was unimpressed. He told Sachin to focus on batting instead. Sachin was a ball boy at the 1987 Cricket World Cup semi-final between India and England at Wankhede Stadium.

Ranji Trophy Debut

2000s: Captaincy Phase
